Rebrand of kids' self-publishing iOS app
We designed a new look for this app, integrated the company brand into the look and feel, helped with thinking beyond new features in the app and participated in flight testing. We are working with Kids’ Own Publishing on their advertising campaign to get the app to market before Christmas.
We worked closely with the team at Kids’ Own Publishing to get a clear understanding of their brand and what the rebranding of their “WePublish: Our Voices” app was to achieve. We learnt that they have a strong bent for crafting, working alongside kids and producing tactile keepsakes. Unlike many bookmaking apps, KidsPublish is geared toward utilising found objects, crafted scenes and photos, and learning to write stories in collaboration with helpers as well as giving young kids simple tools to facilitate independent creativity. Ensuring the design reflected these points was key and played out in the cover page.
We designed the background and buttons for pure functionality and to take a back seat to the 8 pages of the book, so that the child is not distracted from his/her own creation. We used a natural colour palette, subtle craft-inspired texture and primary colours for buttons.
We developed a very simple App Icon to represent key sales categories - books and education - and workshopped a tagline with the Kids’ Own Publishing team that communicated the unique selling points of this great little app.
